The GreenPoint Foundation
GreenPoint, the philanthropic and educational division of
GreenPoint Bank, is committed to giving away one million dollars
in scholarship funds within the year of 2004 to those 100
individuals selected as the most qualified GreenPoint Achievers
(GPA.)
The GPA program is considered innovative among financial lending
institutions on account of its core emphasis on communities
and sheer magnitude of the awards bestowed. Incepted in 1996,
the program has since given away more than 600 scholarships
for a total of greater than $6 million to NYC students.
GreenPoint company officials and executives, who embrace the
notion of giving back to the community, stand behind this
program as it offers a meaningful tool to those desiring to
further their education and improve their future.
What is a GreenPoint Achiever? The term has been defined
as a high school senior who intends to go to an accredited
college or university.
How are winners chosen? Award recipients are selected based
upon academic achievements, career potential, lack of financial
resources and overall respect of those in their community
and schools. Participation in various arenas including: work,
school, and the community, are taken into consideration when
making the final selections.
The GPA program is supervised by Scholarship America, a national
organization, which provides professional oversight of scholarship
programs.
Former recipients have expressed their gratitude for the
very invaluable assistance, tremendous opportunity and supportive
guidance provided by GreenPoint’s generosity. Plus,
many past scholarship recipients later went on to work with
GreenPoint after graduation from college.
The GPA Scholarship Program is funded by the charitable body
known as the Green Point Foundation. In addition, GreenPoint
also makes numerous grants to community organizations responsible
for providing housing assistance, economic planning and other
critical services to low income neighborhoods in New York.
Since 1994, the GreenPoint Foundation has donated more than
$15 million to groups within the tribunal area of New York
City. |
